The Lebanese Information Technology (ICT) sector is a fast growing sector with a market size of USD 381 million in 2014, and projected to reach USD 530 million by 2017. The market has been growing at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.9% over the period 2009 – 2014 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.24% from 2015 to 2018. The positive performance of this sector has benefited from massive investments in the telecom infrastructure, broadband capacity and speed.



  • In 2013, The ICT sector contributed to 3% of Lebanon’s GDP  and its impact on GDP, whether direct or indirect, is forecasted to be greater than USD 6 Billion by 2017
  • The local ICT sector comprises around 800 companies; mostly small and medium-sized businesses
  • The software development subsector employ around 5000 high-skilled individuals, with demand for ICT skills significantly increasing on a year-on-year basis
  • The ICT industry in Lebanon spans across an array of activities that rank among the most growing in the world: content development, mobile and smartphone applications, specialized applications, mobile and online gaming, web development, e-services, and software outsourcing
  • Exports of ICT related activities constituted an estimated 34.8% of total service exports in 2013



  • Highly skilled and multi-lingual labor force:
    • Lebanon ranks 28th worldwide for the Quality of its Educational System, while it occupies the 5th place for Math and Sciences Education
    • It is ranked 5th in the MENA region on the ICT Development Skills Index in 2013
  • Competitive salary base: the average wage of software engineers is nearly 37% lower than in the GCC and nearly 50% lower than in selected developed economies
  • Booming regional market for IT services: Lebanon’s access to expanding regional markets presents significant opportunities. The region’s ICT spending is projected to total USD 211 billion in 2014 and is projected to reach USD 242.8 billion by 2018, accounting for 5.6% of worldwide ICT spending.  This is compounded by a rapidly increasing regional internet market, with the number of internet users in the Arab world expected to reach 197 million by 2017
  • A thriving business environment: with the proliferation of incubators and business development centers, and the emergence of a number of success stories of Lebanese start-ups companies turning global. Today Lebanon boasts more than 5 incubators which have managed to graduate companies that are now global players in the field
  • Increasing financial support to the sector: with the government providing financial breaks for companies operating in the sector and international institutions like the World Bank earmarking funds for SME start-ups
