Technology innovations are increasingly acting as engines for the competitiveness and sustainability of world economies. Advances in the technology sector have not only driven the growth of the sector, but also innovations and productivity across all other sectors and industries.


The MENA region is riding the technology wave, highlighted by commitments from various national governments to diversify their economies and invest in industries with high technology focus. Lebanon has also started to benefit from the restructuring of the global value chain and has witnessed a surge of high tech companies specialized in the manufacture of electrical equipment, clean technologies and in the design of hardware components and semiconductors. These industries, characterized by high growth dynamics, are helping to create various opportunities for pioneering and innovative companies in Lebanon.



  • The domestic technology sector hinges on export-oriented manufacturing: the shares of Lebanese high-tech products as a portion of total manufactured exports have increased from 2% to 13% from 2007 to 2010
  • Lebanon presents investment opportunities in the design of high end electronics and the manufacture of specialized components. Lebanon can act as a product development base, or as an outsourcing base mainly for the design & manufacturing of critical components as well as in services & maintenance
  • Lebanon is well suited to be the home base of regional headquarters, developing specialized products (such as Arabic and Islamic products and services, Smart devices for the energy and utility sectors, Devices and systems for urban and infrastructure management) responding to the needs of around 400 million potential customers

  • Highly skilled and multi-lingual labor force:
    • Lebanon ranks 28th worldwide for the Quality of its Educational System, while it occupies the 5th place for Math and Sciences Education
    • Around 3000 engineers graduate each year and join a labor force of currently comprising 1.3 million workers
  • Competitive salary base: the average wage of software engineers is nearly 37% lower than in the GCC and nearly 50% lower than in selected developed economies
  • A fast emerging cluster: the technology cluster is rapidly emerging in Lebanon with a considerable number of SMEs taking up the challenge of finding real world solutions and developing new products to the global market
  • Increasing financial support to the sector: the government is providing financial breaks for companies operating in the sector
